On Friday, May 11, members of Cochrane Croatia conducted a training course entitled "The value of systematic reviews in clinical practice" at the University Hospital in Split.
The aim of the course was to introduce clinicians to the basic concepts of Cochrane evidence and the value of using high-quality systematic reviews in everyday clinical work.
The content of the course highlighted key methodological features that are crucial for finding and identifying relevant sources of information, assessing quality of clinical trials, understanding odds and probabilities in medicine, and interpreting and applying scientific evidence in the context of current knowledge, with an overview of clinically focused summaries. The aim was to provide clear and reliable answers about the best possible care and better decision-making in everyday clinical practice.
Furthermore, the course was an opportunity to strengthen scientific research capacities, foster networking and exchange knowledge and experiences with members of Cochrane Croatia.
This course is a result of multiple attempts to connect science and clinical practice at the University of Split. We hope it will be the first of many similar courses. We are thankful to our Cochrane colleague, assistant professor Dr Ljubo Znaor, head of the University Hospital Research Unit, and to Mrs. Blanka Kunac, hospital librarian? for their help in organising the event. Likewise, we are thankful to the management of the University Hospital of Split for their support and hospitality, as well as to the wonderful young doctors who spent a sweltering Friday afternoon with the Cochrane team.
