Evidence on mouthrinses and nasal sprays to protect from the spread of COVID-19 - interview with Tina Poklepović Peričić

A recent article published on the Index.hr portal, covered a conversation with the co-director of Cochrane Croatia, Tina Poklepović Peričić, about the presumed effects of nasal and mouthwashes in preventing the spread of coronavirus and alleviating the symptoms of COVID-19.

It was an opportunity to present the recently published work of the Cochrane Oral Health Group, which, together with the Cochrane ENT Group (Cochrane Ear, Nose and Throat Group), conducted three systematic reviews to investigate the effect of antimicrobial rinsing, mouthrinses and nasal sprays in reducing transmission, the risk of infection and protection of healthcare professionals, and improving outcomes for covid-19 patients. The article has been read over 71,000 times in just a few days, which testifies to the great public interest in this topic. This is also an example of a good cooperation between the media and Cochrane Croatia in disseminating reliable scientific information to the public.

We thank the journalist Nenad Jarić Dauenhauer for his support and continuous promotion of scientifically based information in the media.
