In honor of the 2nd World Evidence-Based Healthcare Day on October 20, 2021, members of Cochrane Croatia visited several elementary schools in Split to highlight the importance of appraising the quality of health-related information in an era of fake or potentially harmful information.
Particularly, Irena Zakarija-Grković and Shelly Pranić visited Manuš Elementary School to kick-off the start of World Evidence-Based Healthcare Day. The school’s principal, Marita Guć, welcomed unceasing cooperation with Cochrane Croatia to help her students meander through the current infodemic. From 2018, members of Cochrane Croatia have already been encouraging elementary schoolchildren, including those at Manuš to appraise critically the content of health information from a myriad of sources, especially from the Internet.
Focused on using high-quality published evidence from Cochrane systematic reviews, the on-going #MaliUčiteljiMedija and Informed Health Choices projects involve core concepts that children are able to utilize in their daily lives to make choices that affect their health. Our strive to encourage children's critical thinking concerning health-related information will continue beyond World Evidence-Based Healthcare Day and, hopefully, into the future.
